Project description

Focusing on the transformation of colonialism in the digital age, the project explores the reconstruction of the colonial relationship in cyberspace.

Every day, the internet forces have provided and trained us to depend on online entertainment, online shopping, online education, digital medicines, and so on., Internet users become cyber slaves today. Replaced by coal, agriculture, or even human mining, digital corporations have boosted the data mining process, and it became the main exploitation form in this cyber-colonial era.

Brave New Chapter uses the coexisting posters of the historical event – Paris Colonial Exposition in 1931 and the counter exhibition – The Truth on the Colonies in the same year 1931 (more information about the actual events in 1931), as the metaphorical meaning. The first poster is torn and overlapped the second poster. This collage shows a conflicting action within the political oppositions and the value of counter media. A small text “cyber” was added in the second poster to interpret the reconstruction of colonialism in the digital age.
